How to Build a Computer Subwoofer
Introduction
Subwoofers work in the range where the ear is the least sensitive. A subwoofer is meant to reproduce the bass of music properly. A subwoofer tends to have a frequency range of 20-200 Hz. Subwoofers work by containing one or more woofers in a well-braced enclosure. There are many styles of subwoofers, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. The style of subwoofer that you are about to build looks similar to a wooden box.
Difficulty: Moderately Difficult
Things You'll Need:
- 4 13x14.5 wooden boards
- 2 13x13 wooden boards
- Strong wood glue
- Saw
- Wood stain
- Polyurethane
- Woofer
Instructions
Step 1
Build a box by attaching four upright 13x14.5 boards in a square shape to a 13x13 board along the perimeter. Secure the boards together with strong wood glue.
Step 2
Cut out a woofer-sized round hole in a second 13x13 board with a saw. This is where the woofer will jut out of the subwoofer.
Step 3
Glue the board with the hole onto the rest of the box to complete the shape. Wait for the entire box to be completely dry.
Step 4
Spread a wood stain over the entire box. Then paint 3-4 layers of a Polyurethane over the subwoofer. Sand and buff the box with steel wool in between every coat of Polyurethane. Wait for the subwoofer to dry completely.
Step 5
Insert the woofer into subwoofer. Hook up all the wires according to the woofer’s directions.
