How to Get Dump Truck Jobs

Introduction

Dump truck workers are just another type of truck driver. Driving a dump truck is not a very difficult task for a person who already has a regular automobile license. Dump truck drivers tend to work locally. Their job usually involves driving numerous times to and from their job site. They don’t often drive on the highway. Dump truck drivers generally work for construction or trucking companies. They can also work on municipal projects.

- CDL Class A or B license

- Dump truck

- Newspaper

- Computer with internet access

Instructions

Step 1

Study for a CDL Class A or Class B license exam. Take and pass the exam. You will need a Class A license if you plan to drive a typical dump truck. You will need a Class B license if you plan to drive a semi truck with a dump trailer.

Step 2

Buy a dump truck. Rent yourself and your truck out to a construction company. This type of job is called a freelance dump truck operator. This kind of work allows you to make back the cost of buying the truck and you will also earn a living.

Step 3

Search the classified section of the newspaper and look online for job postings if you do not want to buy your own truck. Look for jobs with a trucking or construction company. Most trucking or construction companies will want you to have previous experience but many will also give you on-the-job training at smaller work sites.

Step 4

Learn how to operate heavy machinery. Construction companies are more likely to hire you if you have experience working with heavy machinery.

Tip

Dump truck drivers do not work a lot of overtime so you will be able to have lots of free family time.

Warning

Do not take a job driving a dump truck if you are a speed demon because dump trucks are not known for their swiftness.
