How to Build a Plumbing Business
Introduction
You don’t need to be a savvy businessman to start a company, but you do need to have clear goals and some money saved up to begin a business. Your company will be most successful if it has its own niche so that you can find clients who need your specific services. Once you build yourself up as a reputable plumber, you should be on your way. All businesses need a lot of planning and little bit of luck to work.
Difficulty: Moderately Difficult
Instructions
Step 1
Gain experience. Work under someone at an established plumbing company. Discover how their business works and see how you can build a new business that incorporates improving your employer’s flaws.
Step 2
Decide what your business goals are. Think about what kind of customers you want to cater to and what the financial outlook will be for your company. Find out who your competition is and figure out how your business will be unique.
Step 3
Buy equipment including plumbing supplies and vehicles. Find out what products are the best and invest in them since you plan to be around for a while. Don’t spend more than you can afford.
Step 4
Market your new business. Take out ads in the paper, set up a website, and make cold calls to potential clients. Come up with a slogan and a logo for your company and use them for your marketing.
Step 5
Book jobs. If your business is successful, you may want to hire a few employers to take on the jobs that you are not available for. Make sure the potential staff members are competent plumbers, loyal workers, and friendly people.
Tip
Use some of your profits to build up your company with new machinery and additional marketing.
Warning
Only hire staff that you trust because they will be entering people’s homes and you need to feel comfortable vouching for them if any issue arises.
