How to Become a BMX Bike Dealer

Introduction

BMX or bicycle motorcross is a popular biking sport. In BMX, bikers ride through a course that is full of obstacles and try to complete the race the quickest. BMX trails are often on uneven dirt paths. BMX first began in the 1970’s. It is now a very popular part of the annual summer X games. BMX bike shops carry all sorts of equipment from bikes to helmets. Different riders prefer different brands of equipment.

Difficulty: Moderately Difficult

Instructions

Step 1

Find an area to open up shop. Research where BMX is popular and check if those areas need a BMX dealer. Look up online areas that have BMX bikes clubs to help you get a feel for what places like BMX.

Step 2

Go to the parks where BMX riders frequent in your area. Ask the riders what they are looking for in a BMX bike store. Find out what style bikes they prefer and what colors they like. Ask the riders what gear they like to wear such as what kind of helmets and knee pads are the best.

Step 3

Stock your store with the equipment that they suggested to you. Contact suppliers of the brands that the riders prefer and set up contracts with them. Don’t overbuy items.

Step 4

Attend BMX races. Make contact with the winners and offer them discounts if they shop in your store. Non-winners and new riders often like to use the same equipment as the champions.

Step 5

Look into what BMX bike clubs there are in your area. Offer the clubs discounts for buying at your store. Tell them that you will make a deal with them if the club buys as a unit in bulk.

Step 6

Set up your shop. Put together a colorful and eye-catching display. The items should be accessible so the customers can test out the bikes and try on the gear easily.

Tip

Hire staff who enjoy riding BMX because they will likely know a lot about the subject and therefore they will be better salesmen.

Warning

Don’t open up a shop in an area that is full of BMX bike stores. Competition is good but you don’t want your business to flop.
