Study for a CDL Class A or Class B license exam. Take and pass the exam. You will need a Class A license if you plan to drive a typical dump truck. You will need a Class B license if you plan to drive a semi truck with a dump trailer.

Step 2

Buy a dump truck. Rent yourself and your truck out to a construction company. This type of job is called a freelance dump truck operator. This kind of work allows you to make back the cost of buying the truck and you will also earn a living.

Step 3

Search the classified section of the newspaper and look online for dump truck job postings if you do not want to buy your own truck. Look for jobs offered by trucking or construction companies.

Step 4

Post a job wanted ad on a career website. You can also place an ad in the newspaper describing the driving position that you are looking for. Be sure to specify that you want a job driving a dump truck and not a different kind of truck.

Step 5

Look in a phone book for trucking and construction company listings. Call up these companies and ask if they are hiring dump truck drivers. If they are not, ask them to hang onto your name and number and to give you a call if they ever do need to hire a new driver.
